How to Check Perfume Authenticity Before You Buy
How to check perfume authenticity before you buy
Before buying perfume, confirm the seller, exact edition, supplied format and applicable policies. Ask for the information that matters for that purchase. A batch-code screenshot, low price, generic photograph or presentation box alone cannot establish the authenticity of the fragrance you will receive.

Write down the exact purchase
Start with the full fragrance name, concentration and volume. For example, Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum and Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait are different listings. A price comparison is only useful when you know which one is being offered. Also distinguish a manufacturer full bottle, an official miniature and an independently rebottled spray.
Know who will supply the order
Look for a business identity, a published support route and clear ordering policies. If manufacturer-listed retail status matters to you, use the brand’s own retail information and ask whether the exact seller is listed. An independent retailer and a manufacturer-authorised outlet are different claims. This guide does not claim that Essentia is an authorised retailer of every fragrance house it stocks.
Ask what the photographs represent
Ask whether the image shows the exact supplied format or identifies the original fragrance. For a full bottle, clarify the stated amount and packaging. For a decant, ask about the atomizer, the filled amount and the source fragrance. Generic stock photography is not a record of a particular order, although it may help you recognise the fragrance name.
Request useful sourcing context
A helpful question is: “What information can you provide about the source fragrance and the format supplied with this option?” Keep any answer with your order confirmation. A seller’s assurance is a claim you can assess alongside its records and policies; it is not the same as independent manufacturer verification. Avoid assuming that a nice box supplies evidence that the seller has not provided.
Understand batch-code limits before purchase
A production-date lookup can provide context, but it cannot inspect the contents you will receive. CheckFresh describes its service as reading production dates. A screenshot of a recognised code therefore does not establish authenticity of a particular bottle or rebottled spray. Use the code as one piece of information when asking the seller about the item.
Review the terms before opening the order
Check the seller’s shipping options and returns policy before ordering. Clarify any deadline that matters for a gift. When the package arrives, retain the receipt and photograph the supplied format if something differs from the listing. Contact the seller about a concern using the order details. Opened products may be treated differently from unopened products under the applicable policy.
Choose the format that fits your decision
A 2ml option gives you a smaller amount to explore. A 10ml spray offers a portable amount for repeat wear. A full bottle is a separate purchase with its own stated volume. Smaller formats can reduce total spend for a first comparison, but size alone does not make a purchase authentic or eliminate the need to assess the seller. Choose the scent and format together.
